A warm welcome on our web-pages, nice you found your way here!

Pointilistic

is a small, loving cattery, situated in the inner city of Vienna/Austria.
I’d like to use this page to tell you a little more about “who, what and why”.

Who? My name is Serina Filler, I am a student of veterinary medicine (still have at least one year to go before starting to work as a vet) and I simply cannot live without cats! They are just so much more than just my favourite animal, they’re soul-mates, true friends, social-workers and nurses. All in one. I hope that my kittens will help people get to love and respect cats as much as I do.
Before starting breeding, I’ve been doing shelter work for cats too. But due to minimizing the risk of infection and my limited time and space, I had to cut back on that.

Pamina and a babyWhat? Pointilistic is a very small home-based cattery. We do however have our “own vet” since my boyfriend finished his studies.
I do not use cages nor do I have kittens available throughout the year. My definition about  breeding is about having goals, not about having kittens!
Thus I try very hard to carefully select my breeding cats for both, health, character and type. Each mating is carefully planned, each new addition is the result of a long thinking process.
Being a small cattery we don’t work with a great variety of colours, in fact I try to concentrate on colourpointed patterns of both, the British Shorthair breed and the Selkirk Rex – the cat in a sheep’s clothing!

My primary goal is to breed the Selkirk Rex up the to written standard, as healthy and as cuddly as they can be, still without loosing their main characteristics in endless outcross generations!
I believe the Selkirk Rex has so much to offer as a breed that is worth working on – to save it for the future! Their extremely soft coats, their matchbox muzzles, their kissable expression, their upright ears and their playfulness, just to name a few.
These are traits that make the Selkirk Rex unique and cannot be found assembled in any of the outcross breeds! Their curly hair is just a part of their uniqueness, it’s the part that makes people get interested in them. But what really sticks us together are all the other things that make them special!

I want to thank Pam Sharp (Pamacs Cattery, USA) for giving so much valuable advice when I started my cattery as well as for allowing me to have Promise and putting me in touch with Patti Meek (Calicurl’s Cattery, USA) who later let me have Frankie-Boy. Without these two cats, it would have been a whole lot harder to learn about good Selkirks and start my programme.

Kira and KikiWhy? Well… since animal shelters have thousands of homeless cats it has become a challenge to justify breeding even more. I am aware of this problem every single day and thus try only do have litters that I think are of value for the breed. We do a lot of health testing to ensure vital kittens and we do very carefully chose every single new owner! We want to place the right kitten with the right family! Yes, we are breeding family members that we want to have the best possible start in life!
Our kittens are raised underfoot, as family members – they know human beeings from the very first second of their life! In fact, my females would come to wake me up when they are in labour or decide to have their kittens in my bed.
Our kittens never have to make any bad experiences with other people and I really want this to continue for a whole cat’s life!
So please don’t be confused when you are asked a couple of questions before being allowed to adopt one of our precious babies. I’m not that curious, I just want to ensure a loving home for each of them!
Our cats have been exported to various destinations, always being known for their affectionate characters and great health.

MilkyAs a vet-to-be, I’m inevitably concerned with health which also is one reason why are aren’t very active on the show circuit. However, I still have to point out that without cat shows and competition, there would not be any cat breeds at all. We just live in a fortunate time as the internet allows us to learn and compare cats far mor quickly than ever before.
My cats are vaccinated against cat-flu, panleukopenia, feline leukemia and rabies. Before mating they are blood-grouped and PKD (hereditary kidney cysts) negative tested. I also try to do regular HCM British Shorthair Kitten(hereditary heart disease) tests when the cats have reached adulthood. We also do regular wormings and as my vet comes to my house for vaccinations we have continous “check-ups” too.Bianca

I’m member of  Ticacats, a TICA chartered club and my cattery is registered in TICA too.
If you are new to purebred animals, please not that a cat’s papers guarantee up to a certain point, that the breeder had to meet several conditions to assure the proper raising of the kittens.
And that’s just what it is all about – healthy and well socialized kitties!
